THE UNTOLD JENANG’S SUCCESS STORY





A Century was passed by the producers of jenang. The result of high consistency, they made Jenang as the traditional gift becomes world-class herritage food from Kudus.

Visiting Religious city, Kudus is never be perfect without getting special snack which is called Jenang that made from sticky rice, coconut milk, sugar and wijen. In the past years, this food appeared only in the big ceremonial day but now this food comes in every season. All those things are the result of hardwork of a family who successfully made Jenang becomes more popular.

“Is there anyone who does not know Jenang Mubarok which is known as Jenang Sinar 33 ? People who come to Kudus even everyone who knows Kudus never forget the existence of Jenang Mubarok which is familiar enough” Muhammad Hilmy, the third generation of Jenang Sinar 33 ownership said.

He added that in 1910 his family as the origin of Kudus people started to produce Jenang and only received the order from Kudus people only. This business was started by Haji Mabruridan Hajjah Alawiyah in very minimum capital. From the starting point, the owner only sold Jenang in Pasar Bubar around Kudus Minaret area. In that time, the owner only produced 35 Jenangs in a production term.

Citrapersada Mubarok Food, the current name of the Jenang Sinar 33 production now has more than 162 employees in production department and 20 operational management.  The production has been expanded to the international areas.

“Currently, we are exporting our products to Korea, Taiwan and some countries in middle east such as Arab and Egypt” Hilmy said.

As the result of the development of technology, now the production using sophisticated technology. Nevertheless there is a step that must use manual way. The process of cutting still using human resources since it will affect to the original taste of Jenang.

“Even if using technology is really helpful, but using hand is much more authentic and never change the originality of the taste” Hilmy explained.

“The central store which is located in Sunan Muria street number 33 always crowded of buyers. It will be more crowded if the pilgrimage season comes. In normal season, the crowdies always happening in weekend as the result of many tourists come to Kudus” Hilmy ended the interview.
